Apple is speculated to launch the long-rumoured successor to the iPhone SE. The smartphone was launched way back in 2016. Past reports have indicated that the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to launch the iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9 in March this year. Now a new report from German website iphone-tricker.de states that Apple could unveil its compact smartphone on March 31 with sales commencing in the first week of April. Notably, the original iPhone SE was also unveiled in March. The upcoming iPhone 9 or SE 2 will be Apple’s third mid-range smartphone after the iPhone 5C and SE.
Previously reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated that the smartphone was scheduled to go under mass production in February and launch around March-end. However, with the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, Apple is facing troubles with the iPhone 9’s ( or SE 2) mass production due to shutdown. This may lead to a significant impact on its shipment. Apple also warned investors that it would fail to meet its quarterly revenue targets due to iPhone supply shortages and consumer demands. It remains to be seen about Apple’s upcoming plans as the situation keeps improving. There’s still a month left till Apple’s rumoured launch event, so we expect more news ahead.
iPhone 9 / SE 2 specifications:
Last month, notable gadget tipster OnLeaks had shared renders of the upcoming entry-level iPhone. The smartphone will feature an iPhone 8-like design with a 4.7-inch screen. The display is surrounded by thick top and bottom bezels. The iPhone 9 or SE 2 will come with a Touch ID sensor and a single rear camera. The smartphone is also expected to flaunt a frosted glass panel found on the iPhone 11 Pro. The renders reveal a Lighting port for charging and no headphone jack.
The iPhone 9 or SE 2 is rumoured to be equipped with an A13 Bionic chipset that also powers the iPhone 11. It will be paired with 3GB RAM and offer 64GB or 128GB storage options. The device is also tipped to support wireless charging feature.
The iPhone 9 or SE 2 is expected to debut at a starting price tag of $399 (~Rs 28,500).
